Well why not. The games are extended from time to time to include things which the original Greek participants would not have contemplated.
Inclusion of more pursuits must increase the following and therefore the revenue.
More medals more money more buildings so why not.
Is it silly, well maybe but when has silliness stopped human extension of anything.

Ah you guys obviously don't get the deeper aspects of this highly technical sport ...and I am not trying to take anything away from the noble art Of pancake flipping.

Played rugby league and Union at school and for a few years after, and follow my favourite teams in both codes, but I have no interest in soccer / football. However, every 4 years I watch the Soccer World Cup and can appreciate the skills demonstrated by the best in that game. Likewise I watch the ribbon twirlers and ball bouncers at the Olympic gymnastics - amazing. But I can't imagine there'd be anything to appreciate in Olympic Yoga.

I don't flip my pikelets, but here is a recipe with associated story.

Townsville Blood Bank Pikelets.

From 1986 – 1993 when I used to roll-up my sleeve there, pikelets were served to donors at the Blood Bank at the Townsville General Hospital. One of the staff, Jenny Urqhart mixed the batter to her own recipe that she kindly shared.

Ingredients:

4 Eggs.
¾ Cup of Sugar.
8 Teaspoons of Baking Powder.
¼ Lid of Vanilla Essence.
½ Cup of Melted Butter.
3 Cups of Milk. (I use 4 – 4 ½ Cups of Milk for a runny batter).
3 ½ Cups of Plain Flower.

(These quantities will make a BIG batch).

Method:

Beat the eggs, sugar, baking powder, vanilla essence and melted butter well with electric hand beater. Add the milk and flour then beat further.

Heat a pan on medium heat and melt a half-teaspoon of butter. Spoon / ladle in your batter and cook until bubbles have formed across the surface of the pikelet. Turn and brown the other side.

My comments:

I like to make large, thin pikelets that can be rolled up to eat. For this, the batter needs to be very runny. So I add extra milk to Jenny’s recipe as per above.

They are very yummy with a drizzle of lemon juice and sprinkle of sugar.

Trouble is with adding a 'sport' then they remove something else to keep it all within timescale. Winners, losers.
Sorry, yoga just doesn't cut it as a 'sport', same for this rythmic swimming thing.
I'm not into any particular sport but regardless I still like watching many events to see the skills. Gymnastics, (even ribbons) track events, cycling, (velodrome can be real nail biting ), swimming, diving so I am not antisport in any way but some proposals for inclusion are just not .....

Come on Brent can't you imagine sitting in front of the tv taking in the yoga and putting away a plateful of Michaels tasty treats.

Bring back Roy and HG as the commentary team for the yoga and it will become the most popular "sport" at the olympics.

Nope, ... if they get 'sitting in front of the tv' to be an Olympic sport then I'd still fail that.

Probably quite likely the way they are going ...
