DSLR How To Guide?

Hi All, now I've splashed out on a Canon 40D it's occurred to me that I haven't the slightest idea how to do astro photos with it

So I don't drive everyone spare here badgering with questions, thought I'd better do some reading first. I've had a look at the IIS articles but can't see anything there. Google reveals a Michael Covington book, but it looks like 2004 and already a bit dated?

Any suggestions?

thanks,

Rob

Have a look at Jerry Lodriguss's book on Astrophotography with a DSLR camera.

Covers pretty much everything you need to know and goes into image processing aswell.

you probably need to invest in a guide scope and guide camera-guiding software-PHD is free!

Hi Matty, I was just having a look at that website. It looks like a very good E-book and something that could help me along as well.

thanks for the link.

Cheers

Hi Ian,
You definitely need autoguiding for long exposure shots with a DSLR. I see from your signature you already have both DMK and Toucam. They both can be used as guidecams. Now all you need is a guidescope.

...and a laptop and suitable port to interface to the guide port on your mount.

Yep, the DMK21AF04 is perfect as a guide camera.

Use your 925 as your guide scope and image through an ED80 piggybacked on it.

Get the GPUSB adapter from shoestring astronomy to feed back into your mount. What mount do you have?
