HDR photography

Hi All

I've been admiring a lot of the HDR images in the terrestial photography section of IIS
I'm intrigued by these having recently purchased a 40d starting the learning curve in digital photography

Can anybody explain in semi laymans terms the processes involved, & any tips on appropriate software or websites that specialise in HDR info that might get me started in experimenting in this field

Cheers
Bryan
