Canon 300mm

hi to all,
I require help with regard to astroimaging,
my Canon EF 300mm,1:4L lens has IS,
my question is,
if I use a tripod for imaging,
and switch OFF the IS,
then does the lens assume the,.
300mm 1:4 L capability,

thank you in advance,

rgds,
Peter,

Hi Peter,

If you switch OFF the IS and the auto-focus, then you have a lens which will behave like a 300mm f/4 manual lens.

rgds,
Peter,
Please clarify your question.

Are you referring to the Field of View Crop in Video Mode or something else...? You were originally asking about astro-imaging, usually that's done by manual focus. Why the interest in autofocus for that application?

As suggested in the link below, you can do it directly from the camera depending on the Canon model or possibly more easily by using Backyard EOS software. Here is some reading on the former...

http://www.astropix.com/html/i_astro...esolution.html

It explains how to test the crop video to see if it is 1:1. Essentially take an image at Full res and compare it with a video frame taken from one of the camera's low res movie modes.

BTW I'm am Nikon
