Chris, that's a great setup - just read through the thread you linked.

I'm about to sign off with the builder on the work in the next week or so. We're doing our major house shift early next week, so I'll be there to see all the action when the construction work begins.

Haven't updated this thread in a long time.

Platform got built and dome is back up with a few teething problems to go - mostly the sealing to stop the leaks at the floor level. Good thing we've had a fair amount of rain recently to help test things out.

The view into the dome up the ramp.

Slightly different view, so you can see the platform deck height.

The other side, looking back. There's power to the shed right near the water tank. I did a test this morning for Ethernet over Power, so all I need to get done is to extend the power from the shed point to the dome. Not extra trench is needed to get data back to the house. Damn happy about that as is was going to be very expensive to do.

I've got the dome and shutter motorised - working on getting that hooked up to the PC later (dome rotation is done). "Hiding" in the pod right now is a dehumidifier that I'll set up. I'll get a special plug so I can also control it (on/off) from the PC. I'm organising a pier to go on top of concrete pillar and need to sort out the power/data distribution inside.

Leaks

Hello Chris

If you are struggling with leaks, is it possible to fix sheet metal flashings inside the base of the silo and over the base?

I built a 3m dome last year and have had no leaks, water will go wherever it can you just need to out guess it.

If I can work out how to post some images I will.

Ed

All the leaks are at the floor level - the dome and walls are fine. We did some fixes yesterday with the sealant and I hope to test it this week.

If it works, the leaks were caused by very minor gaps at the base of the sealant - floor "join" point. Now we've ensured the gap between the floor and the dome has been completely filled and "flattened".

It's certainly good guidance in the dark for sure. It might not be obvious from the images, but there's a small platform at the top of the ramp to stand on while opening/closing the door. Easy to put stuff on going in/out too, etc.

I have to remove some of that pesky green stuff on the ground as well to tidy it up further and to provide a cleaner path from the house to the ramp. More work of course, but it will make things that much better overall - to use and maintain.
