Orion

An update on my Orion image. Lots of brown dust in the background. I actually reduced a lot out because it looked too much. Probably overdid the sharpness and color lol it’s hard to,know when to stop.

Ended up using 23 x 5 min subs, combined with 12 x 5 sec, 12, 10 sec, 12 x 30 sec subs. I’ve got at least another week of full cloud so won’t be adding to it anytime soon.

I'm loving these Orions coming through at the moment. The nebulosity is so clean. Well done. Yes a touch over on the sharpness but who am I to pick.
Great photo Gavin

You've done well taming the dynamic range, good detail down to the core and not over done with the colour

Have you done this in PixInsight? If you have, I am assuming you used AutomaticBackgroundExtractor (ABE)? I bring that up because it's dark and contrasty in the middle and but the outer dusty regions and a lot brighter.

ABE in it's default settings finds gradients that don't exist

Thanks everyone I’m looking forward to a much cleaner version when the clouds move on for me. Yes it was exclusively PI Colin. Maybe I should have another go with dynamic background instead?

I usually end up using ABE but there is a tweak I make. Under the "Interpolation and Output" I change the "Function Degree" from 4 to 1.
1 looks for simple gradients
2 looks for what could be considered as a flat with some gradient
3+ just looks for more and more complicated gradients

Looks quite good...more blue than usual. I preferred the red saturation and the dust lanes as in the previous iteration.

Its hard to get the blue with a DSLR - howd you do it?

I sort of like the running man to the LHS too.

Cheers
