ISS crossing the Moon this Staurday in Brisbane

At 19:35 - 19:36 on Saturday 21 November, the ISS will pass very close to the Moon when viewed from Brisbane, and will cross the face of the Moon if you are located on or near the right path:

From my home in the north-western suburbs, it's a "near miss", but at my parent's place in the southern suburbs, it crosses the Moon - guess where I'm spending Saturday evening?!

(Saturday forecast is for hot and sunny, 0% chance of rain - just hope those thunderstorms give us a miss on Saturday.)

Julian...

With a transit time of 0.6 sec if your located on the centre line. The further away from the centreline the quicker the transit.
Just a reminder...dont blink!

So the transit of the ISS did in fact occur from my position at Forest Lake south of Brissy.
It was a great sight to see this very bright object moving towards the moon at speed, I wasn't sure it would actually cross from my position but it did cross the lower 3rd in a blink of an eye.
I managed a few images taken through a Nikon 300mm F2.8 lens with 2x converter. I was a bit disappointed in the results though as the station was a bright white dot in all shots.
I suppose next time I'll have to use my 6" reflector and mount my Nikon to that....oh well.

Hi Jason

Great that you managed to see this “blink of an eye” event. With an effective fl of 600mm you should be able to produce a composite image showing the ISS approaching, crossing and departing the lunar disc.

I had a Canon 7D Mk II attached to my ‘scope (efl 1500mm) and shooting at 10 fps, I managed to 5 frames with the ISS against the lunar surface.

Cheers

Dennis

I want to view the ISS in Melbourne. Is there a software program
Out there that tells me the rise/set times for my location?

NASA Spot The Station will email you before each pass for your location
http://spotthestation.nasa.gov/

Lots of other options - PC software, phone apps, etc.

Planetarium software, eg Stellarium, can show the path and even drive a mount, but the motion is jerky.

Satellite Tracker http://www.heavenscape.com/ can be used directly or in combination with EQMOD to smoothly track the ISS with several types of telescope mount. Getting it all to work is not easy.
