compression rings

As anyone knows compression rings are much better than just screws (a) because the grip better and (b) because they don't mark diagoanls and when you have a heavy diagonal worth a little this is important.

Therefore I have never liked the cheap Skywatcher fitting on the ED72, see first photo.

I googled Youtubes content for adaptors, and found this.

From First Light Optics (UK) sorry, they do post abroad, perfect, and holds my Baader 2" diagonal and 2" eyepieces exceedingly firmly, it is also very well made and finished

Interesting. I was wondering why there is an adapter specific to the ED72 so I searched and found this thread on SGL that confirms the thread is different from Skywatcher's other scopes. No idea why they changed it.

I also noted that the ED72 owner complained of a lack of focus travel. Apparently there is only about 40mm in this scope, which probably explains why you couldn't reach focus with your 2" your erecting prism as noted in another thread.

Yes there is limited in travel, that however applies to many scopes, the scope is fine with binoviewers just with a 1.25 diagonal (annoying)

William Optics had a similar issue with their ZS66 scopes a few years back. They actively marketed their 2" erecting diagonal (the same one you tried) for that scope but it couldn't actually reach focus.

Anyway, the ED72 seems to be a very nice scope and attractively priced.

I bought the 72mm for three reasons

1. It comes with no accessories (diagonal, finder, eyepieces) which are pointless if you already have them, or if this is a first scope, it saves money and allows you to buy what you want not what you are given and charged for.

2. I am not a bird watcher but sometimes we go to nature reserves and I wanted a decent scope to allow this. It is great and portable.

3. Fast and simple to use saves getting my larger scopes out and with a baader zoom it can always be in the car

(oh and superb reviews)

I got the ZS66 free when I bought a starlight express camera it was a nice scope, sold a long time back

My autism as anyone knows can get you into trouble, people with Aspergers, learning difficulties such as I have, speak without thinking, the same for writing, we speak "honestly" NOT I repeat NOT rudely but many like me "don't suffer fools gladly"

For example a post was removed from another site this week and I was warned by a mod for it.

I replied to a post, "not wanting to be rude but have you thought of making it", and then went on to offer advice.

This was seen as rude. Unintended.

Unfortunately if this happens a few times you are banned, I did write to SGL explaining about my autism and apologising but never received a reply and was banned, not the first time I have to say.

As a single (autistic) father I raised three autistic sons from 7,6 and 4
