Did you enjoy going to School

Primary School was good ....I got to run around in ' bare feet ' for 7 years.( grades 1 to 7 )
I didn't like our English teacher ( Mr Bird ), he was a ' no nonsense ' man who would send you to the Principal's office for just looking at him.

Now High School was different, my German teacher ( Miss Cotter ) what a ' dish ' she was ...I had to keep reminding myself I was only 13 and she wouldn't be interested in me.

The best part was when our Music Teacher ( Mr Madson ) was so fed up with us ... so he gave up and let us listen to Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper.
Ah...those were the days ( 1960 to 1972 )

Which one?

Due to circumstances beyond my control I went to 7 different schools in 3 different countries and had to learn 3 new languages other than my native Finnish/Swedish.....
I enjoyed Maths, Geography, Chemistry and Physics most......

not at all.
primary was like an institution
secondary was fight or be bullied
tertiary was like flying solo
However, I managed top grades despite the barriers and peer pressure.

I hated to think my kids might go through what I did.
I think the schools we chose were OK for them.
But you still had to "be in with the in crowd"

I enjoyed school and recognized early it was my ticket out of my rural surroundings. Do not misunderstand my comment, I miss the farm life but knew early it was not for me.

Primary school was exciting and high school not challenging...but university, wow that was great!

Hmmm.

Primary .., I was tall, very tall, for my age and older kids picked fights with me because of it. Took up judo at year 5, and within a term I was able to flatten most of the bullies. After I broke a few noses and arms they learned it was best to leave me alone.

Secondary... attended worst public school in the state, where it was "de rigeur" to fail everything. Many years later realised the public school system is rotten to the core with is Labor-Party nihilism - the teachers were all part of it as they're (you guessed it) an affiliated trade union.

Silly me scored 99 or 100% in every exam to year 10. More bullies tried, but by year 7 term 1 I had a blue belt and they were keen to take me on. I would lay them out on the pavement, and made sure it would hurt. Badly, if need be, and I broke a few bones if really pushed. Up in front of the headmaster several times as a result.

Year 10-12... full scholarship to GPS private school. God what a change, had a ball. Best time of my life, bar none.

Uni... first degree was a waste of time. While I knew what I liked and was good at, I didn't really understand there were no job prospects for that qualification. Second degree was totally to the point, rocketed through, enjoyed it immensely.

Similar to Matt, I attended 8 different educational institutions as a student and have been lucky to inspire and enable also at 8 different schools, so to date I accumulated many great memories from 16 different temples of knowledge.

Flashdrive: your English teacher was probably upset that you couldn't spell Principal correctly.
Wavytone: I hope what you wrote is an outline for a novel because otherwise you frighten me! Violent kid has ball at private school - good reason to keep your (grand)kids in the public system.

Kevin (started school in 1949, finished uni 1977 as mature age student, public schools - secondary selective).

Nah... judo is a defensive sport, not for attacking and in this respect its quite good for kids. Boxing, karate and kickboxing are the attacking sports. I was just sick of being punched up because I was tall and skinny wearing glasses, the ultimate nerdy type. Main solution was to wait till they had a go and were off balance then I'd throw them quite easily. They learned fairly quickly that trying to pick on me was not a good idea. The schools I went to all knew who was who.

I had the state champion as a coach and was in full adult competitions each week with the results published in the local newspaper each monday. In year 10 the sport master spotted my name in the paper and asked if that was me and from then on I was exempt from being required to play school sports... bliss as I loathed cricket, basketball and football. Kept playing till the final year of my degree when i had to stop (no time).

I was the school anti-bully. Big ugly b@$turd like me... defused most situations with jest and jocularity (see a pattern? ), never needed to resort to physical anything (too much effort). Stood up for other kids mostly - got in between the bully and the picked-on.

Not overly tall, but my immense girth certainly began at an early enough age Played Ra-ra as a forward for many years right through to University (when I decided to get slim to get more...err..you know...)

Got teased HEAPS - water off a fat duck's back. Self-depreciation worked too . Didn't bother me one single bit - nickname in primary school was either Louie the Fly (obvious) or Rolly Polly and it stuck. Heck, my father either calls me Big Fella or Hugh Jarse.

Col, further addendum to your prior English teacher's correction, I think you'll find it is "too", as in the additional "as well".
