repro Jupiter June28

Apologies for re-posting oldish data, but I spent a bit of time trying to figure out how to get the best out of Registax 6 and managed to significantly improve the stacking on previously posted Jupiter data from a night of fairly good seeing - enhanced the detail quite a bit, but at the cost of greater noise. Thanks for looking - very grateful for constructive feedback. Regards Ray

That is very nice! Yes, once the settings are nailed in Registax 6 I can't imagine anyone going back to an earlier version. It does take time & experimentation to find those optimum settings.

Regarding noise: Part of my workflow is to purposely over sharpen, & then hit it with a low percentage gaussian blur mask.

Thanks John.
Yes, Registax 6 is certainly very powerful in ordinary seeing. I got improved results by doing a 100 image sub stack + a little enhancement, to generate a reference image, and then doing the final stack using that high quality reference.
Thanks very much for the tip on noise reduction, will try it - I have been using what I assume are the non-linear noise filters in the R6 wavelet layers, but the results seem to be overly sensitive to settings and I am not quite sure how the linked wavelets work anyway. Regards Ray

I tend to stay clear of Guassian & linked waveletts. I do get good results with that scheme for any lunar AVI's though.

I still prefer my linear default scheme for planets.
