Southern stars Aug 15

Aug 15, 10.30 pm. Looking S/SE from central Vic I captured these images of the Milky Way near the Coal sack (visible upper centre) with Carina region below it.
Also a glow near the horizon might be the Aurora another viewer imaged at about the same time. I have included three images with different processing.
Which do you like? Taken at 15 sec x 3200 iso with Canon 1200d modded camera using 24 mm lens at f2.8.

The colour is there, but is there city lights behind the trees John? I think I can see some green down low behind them which is typical aurora.

Hi Trev, There are no city lights in that direction. Thats why I thought it may be an aurora. Cheers, John W

Certainly looks like the glow from the aurora John.

Hopefully another chance tonight.

Cheers,

Justin.

Then I'd say you have got one. The green is a give away, and the red on top is icing :-)
Well done.

Reply to Trevor, Thanks - I'm sure it was the aurora. I took another image 2 nights later in the same region at same time and no colour glow.
Regards, John W.
