Jupiter and Mars from Melbourne

As Stefan has said his thread, good seeing in Melbourne on Friday night and Sat morning.

Not perfectly steady (it never is in Melbourne!) and I think it was actually sightly better when I imaged Mars at around 3am.

Will play around with the Jove captures during the week as it does not look like there will be any more good weather for another week.

Clear skies.

Hi Russell,

It was with the 290mm.
Have only taken a test shot of the moon with the 1600mm so no comparison I'm afraid.
I can say I am getting twice the frame rate compared to the 174mm though.

John,

That's a beautifull image of the Great Red Spot and Jupiter in General.

Really nice shots John! What's most interesting is that you've caught two white ovals in Jupiter's NNTB in the process of merging (upper right of your image). Stefan Buda, Troy Tranter and Leigh Westerland also caught it in the act around the same night close to 12h UT (search on PVOL for their images). The two ovals closed in separation very rapidly over the previous couple of weeks, then collided the same day as two of the white ovals in the SSTB also collided, spotted by Chris Go. Guess who imaged almost exactly in between these two times

Nice images John. Seeing looks to be quite consistent. You have some nice runs on the board now.
