My take on NGC 3918

Taken at 3,000mm focal length, and enlarged to somewhere around
a 20,000mm f/l image. The plainer image was just tweaked a little in PS,
and the more detailed image had the contrast increased a bit. I don't know whether the pattern is genuine, or a product of the increase in
contrast. I have never seen a high quality close up image of 3918
compare it with. 10 secs @ 1600.
Sorry about the huge size difference; I stuffed up.

Wow that's a tiny target you chose there Raymo at around 8-10 arc/s according to Wiki.
The only images i can find with any real detail were done with Hubble.

I love images of these quirky little Planetary Nebulae

Thanks for sharing Raymo

Thanks Michael. It was a single sub. I might try again with a longer focal length, and stack some subs, to see if it is possible to get any detail at all
with my modest gear.

Having looked at a Hubble version of this, I see that the pattern is genuine. I really must try for a better rendition.

I found this image taken by Steve Crouch from Canberra.
Using his 36.8cm RCOS

That's quite different from both the Hubble one and mine.
How can it be blue, when visually it is bright green?

I think the blue colours are perhaps a product of the Narrow band Data blending done for that image
