Seriously miffed, Ten and Foxtel conspire to stuff up F1
In what has been described as "a big win for the sport’s diehard fans", by the Daily Telegraph (who coincidently is owned by?), Ten network has sold off the rights to telecast F1 in Australia. Half of the season will now not be available on Free-To-Air TV, it will be available exclusively on Foxtel and will cost you $600/year to watch it.
Firstly, what a load of total bollocks journalism in the DT article, how anyone in their right mind could describe the decision as a "big win to fans" clearly has a different dictionary to the one in customary use. Not that I usually read the DT, but if I do I won't be believing anything that's written anyway.
Secondly, I'm just greatly disappointed that I won't be able to watch the only sport I really enjoy on FTA telly anymore. Or at least half of the season, which means I'll miss the development of the tactics that I enjoyed so much.
All this just when we get an Aussie right at the top as No1 driver in a leading team.

This is basically what we get free to air, seems the same set up is for V8 Supercar as well.
With just a month until the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, Foxtel, Fox Sports and Channel 10 have combined to sign a new five-year deal for the Australian broadcast rights.
Heading into their 12th year of covering the sport, Ten will continue to show all 20 rounds of the 2015 championship on free-to-air, but only 10 of the races will be shown live.
The remainder will be shown as one-hour highlights packages at 9.30pm on ONE on the Monday night after the race in a move similar to the Ten/Fox V8 Supercars deal.
Iconic races on the F1 calendar — including the Australian and Monaco Grand Prix — will continue to be shown live on free to air under the new arrangement (scroll down for the full 2015 list).
The calendar of free-to-air races will vary from year to year.
Not very happy Jan

They probably did the deal in order to rake up some money
from somewhere. It's such a rubbish channel, they're probably
nearly broke.

After several decades, Bernie and his minions have probably just managed to wean me off F1, unless I can cobble together an overseas feed that will be about that.
First year in 15 that I am not actually going to the AGP too. That was for money and time reasons, buggered if I will be shelling out hundreds of bucks a year to watch it on Foxtel. They stopped getting my money years ago and I don't plan to change that for F1.

Its just the only sport I watch on telly, its one of the only programs period.
Viewers strikes might work - don't watch any. No viewers no advertising revenue.

Double that if you want the sports channels, which would be the point of this discussion. I gave up on Foxtel in the first place as I was sick to death of the constant repeated dross and ads. Same same for Foxtel Go (Online platform, which is limited to a small number of devices, none of which suit) $25 for the basic package and then another $20 for the sports package (Assuming F1 will even be on that platform) To watch a season of F1 will cost $750, Damned expensive when I gave up on it in the first place because I thought it was expensive and rubbish. That cost is two tyres for my race car!
I am paying less than $25 a month for two different streaming services (Neither of which is Foxtel) where HD is not at extra cost and I get to chose what I watch and when, not the programmer. The sooner Foxtel dies a natural death the better IMO.
I will miss the F1, but not enough to pay money to prop up Rupert again.

Yes, but to get the F1 you need the sports pack, which costs another $25/month, plus $150 install costs, which is outrageous.

Reading that article it appears as though, at least for 2015 the F1 will be simulcast with channel 10 and foxtel, so I gather it all turns to sh1t from 2016

a first for Australian viewers, beginning with the 2015 FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX in Melbourne on March 12. The Ten Network will continue to show 10 Formula 1 races during the 2015 season, simulcast LIVE with FOX SPORTS.
