Is F30 too much

Hi,

I was trying to image Saturn at F30 (7m) on a Edge HD 9.25 with a TV 3 by barlow and a feathertouch automated focusser.

Try as I may I could not get the feathertouch to autofocus with FocusMax V4 (tried with Hadar and Gcrux). So I resorted to manual focus.

As you can see the image is very soft. Can a Feathertouch autofocus at F30, would this be too much for an EDGE 9.25?

Would I get better or at least crisper results with a batinov mask?

Any replies appreciated.

Cheers
Paul

Your Seeing limited is my guess. Try it at the native focal length of 2350mm, bet it looks A lot better.

Try a Duncan Mask, I use one with my Edge HD8 and it is ideal for barlowed camera focusing. You can make one yourself, just download the plans from the internet.

Thanks Glen. At native (F10 or at F20) I am happy, I'm just trying to understand if automated focussing with a feathertouch or if my equipment at F30 will work?
