13/7/18 Partial Solar Eclipse from NZ

Observed from Stewart Island in the far south of New Zealand. No eclipse visible from the main islands, except for the (even more remote) SW extremity of Fiordland.

Pic shows the NW solar limb around maximum eclipse at 15.48 NZST. Altitude of just 11° and less-than average seeing made both observing and capturing it a challenge.

Magnitude 0.24% (yes, a quarter of a percent), obscuration 0.014%

Took a vid through the FS60 with Herschel wedge and 7PL, then PIPP, Autostakkert, Registax (wavelets only)

The day started out clear, then turned to overcast & drizzle, then the cloud started to break 1h before the 10-minute eclipse.

It was about the chase.
