QHY10 CCD Gain and Offset

A funny thing happened on the way to the ...

I decided that I ought to redo the steps for determining the right Gain/Offset settings fr this new CCD.

In the past, I have owned several QHY8s and Gain was always 0 or 1. But in going through the recommended steps to determine the Gain setting, I found that I had to set the Gain surprisingly high in order to get the sensor to an average saturation level of 65K on a 60second sub using a light box. It ended up at Gain/Offset of 11/124.

I was wondering what other QHY10 users have found with their units.

14 / 122 for me.

This varies greatly from camera to camera.

Thanks Pat and Chris. That is reassuring. At 11/124 I'm in the middle.

Fence sitter

My QHY12 (closely related to the QHY10) weighed in at gain 0, offset 130.

Cheers,
Rick.

My why 10 runs with 0/130 as well. I ran it like that for 2 years with no problems then thought I'd improve on preceperfection by following the guide and increased my gain to around 12 as well. Bright objects were OK,m8 m20 etc, but faint things like ic4604 were washed out and colorless, hence back to 0/130.

PS never had a problem with DSS and my qhy10.

And yet, talking to Ozstronomer today, he tells me the QHY10 he tested worked best at 25/125 despite the recommended method having produced something quite different.

By what method did he conclude it was working best? i.e. what are you looking for if not preventing well saturation and crushing the noise floor?
