Astrodon LRGB arrived

Finally have some filters again! Hopefully I'll be seeing less halos now, going to be interesting to see the results. Fingers crossed I can get some data over the next couple of days.

I'm hoping to get out tomorrow/Saturday night, after which I'll post up my findings.

I changed over the Astrodons a few years back and will never look back. Halos are almost non existent now. Worth every cent.

Cheers Rick and Paul.

Had lots of driver / hardware issues due to a new laptop, so I haven't had a chance to give them a full run through.

I took a single test sub with the B filter on a mag 8.2 star, as I knew mag 8's caused big halos on the Astronomik B filter that I had before. The test sub showed no perceptible halo, so it looks like money well spent at this point.

I think I'll try and write my own ASCOM driver for the Nautilus filter wheel. I had a quick snoop of the serial comms that the standalone as sending/receiving and it looks very straight-forward.

I've attached examples from the Astronomik Type 2 (not c), and the Astrodon, both blue filters, both showing a mag 8 star, both from 8min exposures with the same camera. Stretching is different, but you can clearly see the difference in halo.

Also note that the Astrodon shot was mildly out of focus, thus the star size difference.

And of course the filter wheel is working fine this morning in the daylight hours....
