SMC - 9 Panel Mosaic

I have added in another three panels to my Small Magellanic Cloud project for a mosaic consisting of 9 panels. Just about gets the whole thing in the field of view now and I could almost pull the project up at this point. I suspect however that pressure will be brought to bear to continue this journey. We will see .

Statistics on this continue to grow thus:
Subs used = 962
Total exposure time = 125 hours
Cumulative file size for collected data = 16.1 Gigabytes
Master TIFF file size for final image = 293 Megabytes
And, also, total elapsed time to collect data = approximately 2.5 years

Image has been posted on Astrobin and Flickr as per links below. I've given up on Gigapan for now as the service is too unreliable. Click on images in Astrobin and Flickr for larger versions.

Link to Astrobin post here.

Comments and critique welcome.

Clear skies,
Rodney

An astonishing piece of work, a jewel amongst mosaics. A heroic adventure.

We hope you will continue the mosaic for one more strip along the bottom border.

Many thanks MnT and Lee. See - I knew that there would be pressure to continue Still, we shall see what the future holds. I appreciate the thought on the IOTD though simply knowing that others think it is worthy is sufficient (though I guess it would be nice ).

That is a remarkable image. It shows the most Ha for the SMC more than any other image I have seen.

A reference image for some of these more interesting knots of Ha to be imaged at longer focal lengths.

Greg.

Great stuff Rodney All that HII, not as many wacky races characters, animals and cool shapes as the LMC but a rather extensive spread of bubbles huh?

The SMC is sinking fast now after dark, do you think you could still get some more data this SMC season?

Mike

Thanks Greg and Mike. There is certainly a lot going on in the SMC as revealed by all Ha regions. Some narrowband work would be interesting across this field as well. Unfortunately the SMC is getting a bit low now so it will be around September or so before it is better placed to attack again.

Fulfilled the promise shown in the first 6 panels.
Whilst I realise you still want to add another 3 panels, this is a fine standalone image as it is.

Thanks Pete and Andy. I agree that the image stands alone quite well as it is. I will finish the data collection anyway and see how things look.

Very nice Rodney!
Is your last 3 panels going to encompass 47 Tuc? Took me 15 panels to get it in.

Good question and no it doesn't grab 47 Tuc. I did come up with the same calculation as well that it would take 15 panels to incorporate 47 Tuc. I concluded that it was just a tad too ambitious to stretch it that far. Still ... if the universe and time are infinite ....
