Losmandy high torque motors

Anyone using these, and are they worth the upgrade?

Erik, are you talking about the MAXON Motors, if so yes it is worth the effort.

I'm under the impression that Losmandy no longer sells the Maxon motors, having replaced them with the advertised High Torque Servo motors. It may be just semantics though as the motor shown looks identical to the Maxon. Some years ago, I replaced one of the standard motors with a Maxon for the RA drive. Slewing in RA just sounds smooth and effortless whereas the original DEC still makes a 'wahwah' racket. When I can save my pennies, I intend get a second motor.

They do look the same. I'll call Bintel and ask them. I can relate to the noise you described hehe. My RA sounds pretty good, but the DEC is a bit noisy. I'd love the one piece block on the DEC also, but its a lot of money in one hit..

He changed steppers

He changed from Hurst to Saia steppers awhile back. But I haven't heard of any changes in the servo motors. I sure would like a pair on my rig.

Spoke to Don from Bintel, and he said the Losmandy ones are a newer version from the Maxon, with a higher torque.

A hole in the pocket later, but they arrived today! Haven't tested them with the scope attached, but they do sound more powerful

If he's anything like me, he probably hasn't seen the sky since the last post!
