M83

Sitting in the front yard right now imaging M83 which is pretty much directly overhead. Great conditions except the guy next door has gone away for a week and left his outside lights on . Hopefully still getting good data. This is a small stack of luminance so seems okay although perhaps my focus isn't very good. Will have to wait until the weekend to process it all to know for sure.

A great start Kevin

Try alfoil over the light, works for me!

Looks good so far to me Kevin.
I cant wait to see how well you do this one.

As to stray light try a long dew tube (I use such with baffles on both my 80mm and my camera 70 - 200 lens.
In Sydney it certainly helps cut the effect of the street light and the neighbour who bathes me in his head lights on his car.
Hubble does it so maybe there is something to the approach.
I have posted these images before and sorry to clutter your thread but so at least you know what I am going on about.

That's coming along nicely Kevin. When I looked at your field of view I thought it was going to be a 4 inch scope or something similar. I too have an Esprit 100 and my shot of M83 looks much the same but I use a DSLR. Focus can be a tricky one with a refractor, a little bit out either forward or backward of the sweet spot can be hard to judge at times. Yours may not be a focus issue but just due to seeing conditions at the time of exposure. As for Alex's stray light baffles, a stubby holder over a camera lens works for me!

Thanks guys. Looking forward to adding rgb to see how it looks.

Excellent idea with the alfoil Peter (and I really want to do it) but I think he has a security cam so chances are it would come back to bite me. Michael, there seems to be something right about using a stubbie holder as a lens shield but I've got to say I'm really impressed with the internal baffles that Alex has made!

I shouldn't have stayed up late to process it but I couldn't help myself. Here is M83 in LRGB (first light with an ASI1600MM after moving up from a DSLR).
