SPC900NC Webcam adapted to SLR lens

Hi guys,
Have been looking at making an adapter for my webcams to improve the flexibility and make them more useful.

I have two of them and intend to use one for guiding with pHD and the other for AVI capture so needed an adapter or in fact two if not shooting through the main scope so was going to use some old macro extension tubes for the parts needed, the bayonet rings for the SLR lens to fit to.

Was giong to machine up some alloy blocks to fit the rings to and bore out the back side to fit the std adapter. While playing with the bits I found the 22mm ext tube was the perfect spacing back from the lens for good focus and the std webcam adapter fitted a perfect push fit in the back.
A couple of holes in the back to block off to stop outside light entering but that's about all to make it useable.

This will allow me to use any lens from long tele lens to a short wide field lens. I'll still have to machine one block up as I don't have two 22mm ext tubes the same but this will get me going quickly for the guide camera, with a shorter lens than the one in the pictures below of course.

All I need now is a clear sky.

Nico.

Ken,
it looks like you have sorted out a solution.
I did this years ago too, I made a 'homemade Nikon bayonet' adaptor
several times over to enable me to use my Nikon series of SLR
lenses for years with a modded set of webcams.
Worked well for years capturing LX deep sky and planetary stuff,
comets etc. Pic attached of 2 modded webcams with Nikon bayonets.

In hindsight I would probably suggest just making a 1.25" drawtube
adaptor or T-thread adaptor and go straight to the scope.

Yep, I made one too.

The reason I made mine was because when I borrowed Berts (avandonk) TAL Klevtsov it only had a DSLR bayonet on the focuser and I wanted to use my Toucam in it.

All I did was fit an small extension tube through a hole cut in a lens cap.

The lens cap bayonets onto the DSLR Lens (or scope in this case) and the Toucam went into the extender.

I don't have a pic of it but I can take one if you need to see it
It took me about 5 minutes to make and works perfect

Mogg Adaptors doesn't exist any more.

They just vanished of the face of the Earth with undelivered 'paid for' orders.

Thanks guys,
Great stuff, I guess you guys have been doing this sort of thing for a while.
As I'm still in the setup process as the last time I did any astro imaging Halleys comet was here so webcams and the like is a different ball park but i enjoy the setup so I'll have to kick the lathe into gear and see what comes out the other end.

The adapter for the smaller lenses will have to have its own mounting point so time to get busy.
Thanks for the ideas.

Nico.

FYI, just received another email from webcady and he still exists and should be shipped by the end of this week.

I haven't needed to wait really long either sometimes can happen especially when people buy more stuff from overseas than locally. Production must be low so I wouldn't expect him to have them available only make them when needed.

I also ordered a non common adaptor as well.

In a nutshell, he still exists.
