Question about Tokina 300mm F4 AT-X

Anybody has AP images taken with this lens?
I am especially interested in performance in corners.. CA, coma etc.
Thanks in advance!

I used to have the tokina 300/2.8 and it was a ripper for astro when stopped down to 3.2..can't speak to the f/4 however they appear to be of similar mechanical quality so assuming the same of optical quality I'd say it should be ok. I wouldn't think it would be any good wide open though. Tokina lenses rarely are.

Bojan, try this site, Tony Hallas recommends it and it has some good data to help choose a lens before purchasing.

It seems to show very good centre resolution at f/4 but improves to almost excellent stopped down to f/5.6 with the borders and extreme edges improving slightly. It does seem to suffer from CA which oddly, seems to worsen as you stop the lens down with 1.6 pixel width at f/4. No doubt the f/2.8 version would give you more room to move and enable you to shoot at lower f stops.

Hope that helps in some way.

Thanks for the info guys..
So it seems this lens is quite similar to Canon 300mm F4 FD.. which I have and am partly happy with... see here: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ht=canon+300mm

BTW, external aperture is far superior to internal one re CA.

Indeed. On camera lenses I have always found external aperture stops to be far superior in terms of quality and stellar profiles.
