The LMC - this time on the correct forum ...

First light with my Rokininon 135mm F2 lens that I just obtained from Howie, thanks!! Pic of setup attached.

Taken with the ASI071 on a CGEM mount (no guiding - I shouldn't need any at 7.3arcsec/pixel). 73x 1min subs on friday night

Corrected for flats and darks in PI. Processing was a bit of noise reduction, stretching, andmost of all exaggeration. Stars looked a bit weird. Don't think I have spacing correct on the lens/camera

You're right Ryan. It's wonderful what binnng and jpeg compression does. Seems to gloss over it

You have got lots of detail because of the decent amount of integration,
but somehow[ in the processing I assume] you have lost a lot of the
wispiness [for want of a better word] that gives the LMC its beauty. I'm guessing that it is clipped.
I really don't want to hijack your thread in any way, but if you like I can post an image to illustrate what I mean.

Thanks for the comments Alex, Tony & Raymo. By all means Raymo post your pic, I'd appreciate seeing what you have - might help me reprocess.

I'm not sure what the whispiness is - maybe its a surrounding cloud-like feature? I could have clipped it, or maybe removed it with background extraction !!

The wispiness is just clouds of stars like the rest of it is, but much less concentrated.

Nice. I see what you mean. I'll have to have another go at processing it.

Edit: here's a second go at it. Looks like I flattened the surrounding cloud into the background and removed it.
This is a bit better but has much less surrounding detail than yours. I'll have another, another go later tonight - stinking hot here = I can't think.

Chris I have mentioned this before but you should try the doge and burn tools in photo shop...they delectively brighten or darken a selected region...I find use of yhese tools really powerful ..datkening some regions and brightening others in a step by step approach can sort out so many issues ..if noisey dsrkening seems to help ... anyways it takes a while to use it without going over the top.
I have just purchased a 50mm lens for the nikon and an invalometer so I can get long exposures without the lap top...as ot will be on the other moint with the zwo etc...going up tomorrow and hopefully get a weeks capturing in☺

Thanks Alex. I'll have to find an equivalent elsewhere as I don't have photoshop.

Good luck with the 50mm. Its been nice using this lens rather than a scope - quick set up, no guiding. And using on my EQ5, goto modded with onstep - so super light and easy.
