Eta C single exposure

Hi all,

Have been doing some EAA, as a means to dip a toe in imaging.
Ive been experimenting doing longer subs, and refining my Polar Alignment.

Any chance of some comments on this single sub?

5m unguided: ES102 f7 ASI 294 MCPro Cooled to -12, no darks etc.

I really was just trying out my tracking/PA. I have no means to guide as yet.

To me the stars look round, except at the edges, without any trailing. Will guiding improve this?

How do you judge the quality of a sub, as they are all unstretched and processed? I don't think im going to do 5m subs at the moment, but was just playing around.

Had to change the camera orientation for PEM PRO when running their PA wizard,,and didn't refocus, but everything was clamped down tight.

Thanks

If thats five minutes unguided I would be very happy.
I am not sure what is causing the slight distortion to the stars on the left but maybe camera tilt as it seems limited to one area...if polar out if would probably be all over...in any event I am sure if you took a few and stacked them you would have a decent result.
I am still getting oval stars ( worse than yours) but have yet to address the issue. I use the repair tool in star tools to avoid worrying about it at the moment☺.
Rotate the scope and see if the oval stars move as well I guess and that perhaps may identify tilt...but overall I think you are doing extremely well.

Yep. Looks pretty good for 5min unguided. Hard to say exactly at low resolution.

You can put on a bahtinov mask and take an image to examine tilt or try a trial version of ccd inspector.

Guiding is definitely worth the headache with these Chinese mounts and removes one variable from the problem.

If you're able to get 5 mins unguided there's nothing wrong with your mount and you should get an award. 300 seconds at 700mm focal length is phenomenal. If you can get that consistently, why bother with guiding? Mind you, with that exposure I would have expected more detail coming through on your subs. Maybe tell us your camera settings so others can comment further.

Thanks Sunfish,

Not sure how to post a higher res pic with the 200kb limit. Have not posted many images.

Thank Mick,

ASI 294 MCPro was set at max resolution, no binning, unity (120) gain, max cooling was achieving -12. 16bit RAW. WB was set at auto.

Cheers

Hemi

A little processing on your single sub
using photoshop and changing levels curves and colour balance
imagine the potential for stacked images'
I didn't bother with the fringing artefacts but they can easily be removed, same for the star halos

I am amazed you were able to do so much with a small image...feel free to rev mine up any time you like.

Wow...brilliant Nik!

Not ventured into any processing outside of sharpcap as of yet.
