First "something" from new camera.

I have been more trying to set things up and work out how everything works ...phd mainly..

And without listing my excuses as to why I did not do better I post this because it is the first image.

I managed to get phd guiding rather well for 2 minutes so I took only a few maybe 8 of each to make sure all was working.

So whatever was acceptable I stacked then stacked the results which is rather ruff but I don't have much time ( item 1 of the excuses list) a quick twiddle and most of my effort to resize it to fit here

Even now I can see how much more wonderful this camera is over my Nikon the detail has surprised me so far.
There are many things to fix and improve upon but for now I can at least see some hope of doing some decent work in the future.

Still lots to learn before I get serious but to be honest just getting this "something" given the past three weeks of setting up..does it ever stop?..I am happy to have a result which will serve as encouragement as I can tell you there were a few times when a astro gear sellout at half price was about to happen.

Definitely well done Alex. There is so much in that image. Is IT narrow band (I imagine) or RGB.

Yes but short captures all up which is why I am surprised.
I think I managed only 7 HA in fact to tell the truth I did not bother to work out what was what as I said I just stacked each group individually red green blue luminance and the narrow band filters and then stacked the seven results which is rather a simplistic approach ...more an experiment as I was curious to see how the detail came out.

I am fighting exhaustion and cold out there and my thinking is confused so I have not focused on really trying yet.

What I did find was the focuser assistant in sharpcap kept telling me "three lines detected (using the mask) but angles are no the same and heck they looked ok but that message drove me to try harder and I got focuse rateher close for a manual twist of the knob.

ANd thank for the encouragement everyone I really appreciate it.

Yes I have a few things to attend to thats for sure...I compared it to a photo thru the nikon I took months ago and it surprised me the improvement.
Last night was more about getting tracking better which is improving but I am still not happy.
Actually you may know this...the screen shows guiding East or North how should I interpret the trend lines..say if dec is pointing up mostly what does that indicate and what should be adjusted...also say RA trend line points up does that mean the counter weight balance is off and should be adjusted a particular way.
I ended up getting 2 minutes which I was happy with and I took a 5 minute that was just a little off...more may have showed it was one bad one and others were good.
But I dont know how to respond to the trend lines.
I cant work out if the motor is trying to push faster or slow things down.
The last thing I did was to get what should be a spot on alignment using the polemaster thing...probably a waste of money given the ither options but at least it has moved things forward.

Well done Alex,
Theres heaps of detail you got here. Looks like you have got over the biggest hurdle with the setup etc and getting things talking to each other and laptop talking back.
Sounds like you've been spending most of life outside lately fumbling around in the dark and being cold getting new stuff working. Then back inside spending the rest of your time on the laptop then sleep.
What dedication!!!
Getting a new camera and guiding at the same time. Pretty big learning curve.
I have no experience of guiding, PHD, or platesolving so no answers here but keep up those great images
Cheers
Andy

Great result Alex. The really good feature of the mono cameras over one shot colour is the extra resolution and you've certainly got that. The extra detail they give is amazing.

The damn thing is going rats tonight but I think its better now..I have come in as I was so cold.
Nearly warm again so I will see what its doing.
The funny thing is and to demonstrate just what a learning curve I am on...I only learnt how to do a screen shot about two weeks ago☺
Never used goto and although even it is playing up I am hooked.
Here I find things easy but it will be a game changer in Sydney.

Thanks Kevin.
I resisted it cause I like simplicity but it seems the advantages are worth the effort.
I was surprised when the images came out of DSS and most surprised I got a result by stacking the stacks.
Thanks again.
