Can you use a HD vidcam like Sony Flip, Kodak Zi8?

Hi folks,

Rainy day outside so my mind is wondering. I have here one of those portable pocket style HD video cams. Mine is Kodak Zi8, but many people might be familiar with the Sony Flip ones.

I'm wondering if they could be used for imaging in place of a webcam/laptop? Having a single device would be great as you don't need to drag out a laptop, but it also means less control over the device whilst it's imaging.

I would need to do a little hacking to it to remove the lens, etc. The chip in my cam is a 5 MP CMOS, so not ideal I know. It has auto exposure and auto ISO (50-800).

So, any thoughts on this before I go digging into it any further?

Cheers,
Af.
