Deep Sky Observations
5 Oct 2019, midnight to 2am

Observed with a 30cm Saxon Dob and an 11mm Explore Scientific 82 deg EP (135x, 35’ field).
No goto, star hopping is much faster than a goto.
Light pollution to the north around M31, from the Gold Coast, and trees to the SW and SE.
A courtyard protected me from the 20 km/hr wind.

Saw 51 galaxies in this order. (NGC numbers)
M31, M32, M74, M77, 1055, 7585 (M110 not seen)
247, 253. 55, 300, 7793
7213, 7410, 7552, 7582, 7590, 7599
LMC, SMC (with 20x80 binos)
1617, 1596, 1566, 1553, 1549, 1546, 1533
1672, 1559, 1313

1386, 1389, 1404, 1399, 1387, 1379, 1381, 1374-75, 1380, 1350
1531-32. 2090, 1792, 1808

Also approx. 40 nebulae (used a 13mm EP with a UHC filter for emission neb)
1435, M42, M43, 1973-75-77, 1999, 2023, 2024, M78, 2071, 2261
346, 371, 395, 456, 460, 602, 249, 261, 267 in the SMC
More than 20 neb in the LMC

Also 8 planetary nebulae
246, 7293, 7009, IC5150, 1360, 1535, 2438, 2440

Also 10 globular clusters

Thanks for that report Glen. I am amazed at just how bad, and far reaching, the Gold Coast light pollution has become.

That's an impressive list of objects to observe in only 2 hours. Not sure if enough time is spent at each object to really appreciate what you're observing but just finding them all in that time is quite a feat. Admittedly, some of the galaxies are in clusters and are in the same FOV which helps and LMC nebs are as well.
Sounds like a fun night and I agree that star hopping can be much faster than using GoTo and more rewarding in that you are learning to navigate around the sky and it becomes memorised, for next time . All my dobs are push to via Bobroff etc. and I love it that way, so much more rewarding.
