Video viewing

My 4 y.o seems quite interested in astronomy, but has difficulty at the EP. What would be the best recommended live-stream camera suitable to show her on the laptop?

Could I simply run the Canon 5DMkII in Live video mode connected to the laptop? (just a thought - never tried it, have NO idea ). Would my Lodestar X2 be able to cope at a high frame rate (should be more than sensitive enough), though being mono may b less appealing. Or do I need to shell out for a Malincam or similar?

Lodestar x2 with starlight live by Paul Shears or Sharpcap
Your m26 May also work with starlight live and sharpcap.

They qhy and zwo cameras are very popular now for EAA/ video astronomy setups. I think people have also done with dslrs but not sure how that impacts life time of ur shutter. the smaller chips on the planetary cameras like zwo 224 and 290 and lodestar also are good for use with 3.3 focal reducers on SCT scopes.

see EAA forums on CN or Video Astronomy forums on stargazerrslounge.
Nytecam a poster on both from UK did same awesome images with SX guide cameras. unfortunately he passed away recently a big loss may he RIP.

The gstar or revolution imagers is a good unit if u want to stay fully analogue and directly display on small size screen with no laptop etc. but if your going to video grab and process on laptop to improve you may as well use the lodestar or similar cameras with sharpcap.

+1 with netwolf. The lodestar with starlight live, or asi224MC camera for colour on sharpcap. There's also RisingTech cameras based on the same sensors which are cheaper and have their own software.

If you just want to have a quick look without buying another camera you could just use the DSLR for live viewing. Another IIS member Howie gets beautiful live shots, here's a link to one of his youtube demos:

Just use any capture program, eg eos utilities (free), to dump single 15-30sec shots into a folder. While doing this astrotoaster stretches them and can stack multiple images if you want. Works like a charm. Astrotoaster uses the DeepSkyStacker engine, and with the newer 64bit version it works really well (not as fast as sharpcap though).
