Sky Rover 102mm f11 Achro "I'm Confused"

Had this scope given to me and used it for the first time tonight ,Baader BBHS Amici prism Zeiss spec and Nikon Nav 17mm HW not expecting much at all pointed it at the Pleiades and literally went what's that !! Pinpoint whiter than white stars and perfectly flat field with no CA? used to a feathertouch which the focuser is definitely not but ok when i got used to it ,Then went to Orion and got the same rush this is truly a serious performer up there with the ED100 and dare i say at f11 a little more and just the size of the thing is its only disadvantage if you wanted to get picky,You listen to opinion on this site and others then experience 1st hand a scope through word of mouth should not even compete, Big lesson learned this evening that's for sure.......

Try it on Sirius. At f11 youe getting near the point where CA drops off or can be filtered out. Are you sure there isn't a filter screwed in somewhere?

No filter Glen attached anywhere unless it’s the BBHS coatings on the amici prism

Stellarvue and others sold a 102mm f/11 for a while. Altair Astro still sells one in a fancy red tube:

I remember reading good reviews of the Stellarvue so your experience doesn't surprise me. Enjoy!

At f11 the Achro will perform fine its the shorter focal lengths where the angle of incidence is a lot steeper that it would fall short and CA be a lot more obvious , thats where triplets come in .

Andrew,
Glad to hear your positive experience with the 102/ f11.
I have a TS102 f11, Kunming optics and I'm equally impressed.

Thanks for your replies gentlemen and it has been a spin out for me,I think with an eyepiece around 40mm 68 deg it will be excellent so i will just have to wait until something comes up.
The said Altair astro,TS planetary,Stellarvue i have had a look and the only difference is cosmetic apart from the SV that looks to have a better focuser.

The TS 102 has the Baader steel track Crayford— works well for me.

BTW the prism diagonal is possibly improving colour correction slightly.

Based on my measurements the prism has no or very limited impact on systems >f9. I suppose that's why all the early refractors used prism star diagonals.......

I have both a mirror and the amici BBHS and for contrast ,sharpness they are unbeatable ,The T2 amici prism is a gem and would not be surprised if it has an impact on the quality of the view ,The Baader steeltrack Ken would be perfect and i am thinking it might be worth getting the adapter for my FTF
