bedraggled tatty eagle

Folks
After Alex's colourful efforts on this target I had a go with a Canon 60Da.
I took the shots (19 of) at ISO 800 each 4 minutes long. Not much room for stretching at ISO 800. But subsequent nights at lower ISO all came out under exposed.
When it stops raining (not soon for my cow's sake) I will try 8 minutes at ISO400.

Anyway, capture control Nebulosity, telescope control PHD2 and Sidereal Technology, guiding was just reasonable RMS .35.

Dark reduction & stacking with Siril, stretching with Nebulosity, denoising with Star Tools (the image attached is from a ST screen dump).

I am not happy with it,any suggestions?

For just over an hour that’s not too bad at all, although I can see lots of random pixels in the background
Maybe try stacking your raws ( CR ) files in DSS ( Free software )
I think more a lot more subs at ISO800 and 20 darks would improve your outcome
A nice M16 in any case
Are you imaging in light polluted skies ?

Dark sky....yes nearest neighbour 4km nearest (small) town 30 km
so my ob, 200 metres from my back door has this advantage.

For Martin

Hello Martin,
Controlling Canon with Nebulosiry, the program downloads the images as each frome is completed and stores them as fits files on the controling laptop. For alignment, dark subtraction and stacking I use Siril. I could do this with Nebulosity but I prefer the Siril stacking as it uses all reasonable stars for alignment before stacking, for the Eagle Siril used 200 stars. If Nebulosity is used a maximum 2 two stars are used, this to attack rotation between frames.

So no raws since I started using Nebulosity, how does DSS align?

Deep Sky Stacker is one of the most popular stacking freeware world wide with great support and information on how to use it
Go to www.deepskystacker.free.fr

I load my Canon raw (CR ) files , darks, flats etc into DSS , all my settings are preset with the exception of a couple like registering and stacking parameters and Star mass detection
It’s so easy and I get great results from a stack of 10 to 100
It has some post processing tools at the end but I don’t use them , my stacked image is saved as a fits file and then loaded into Startools for post processing
My base DSS settings are customised for a Canon DSLR which is great
