QSI 683 - USB unrecognised error

I have had my QSI683 since 2012 and it has served me flawlessly until now. The other night I powered up the camera remotely and the computer tried installing a device driver for it (odd as it already had this) and then it came up with USB unrecognised. I went to the device manager and it was coming up as unknown device. So I uninstalled the device and removed the driver and powered it off. Reinstalled the latest driver and then powered up again. Same problem arose.

I drove down the following morning to the observatory and tried pulling some cables etc, changing cables, different ports on both the hub and computer, same problem.

I brought the camera home, plugged it into my laptop which it has worked on before and the same problem. Tried driver removal and installation, different USB cables and ports as before. Nothing works.

The camera goes through it sequence at power up with yellow and then flashing green prior to connection and then solid green at USB connection. Plug and play sound occurs as per normal.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? I think it is a fault between the camera USB port and the board or the board itself might have a problem. I have cleaned the USB port. There is no smell inside the camera and I cannot really get to the communications port easily as it lies under the sensor board. All the other boards look ok with no corrosion or burning showing. I think it will need to go in for a service and repair.

Paul,

I haven't had any experience of this myself, however it is possibly corrupted firmware that may need to be reinstalled. There are some details on the linked page.

If this fails I would contact support and see if they can provide some info.

I'd suspect a component has blown.
It happens.
A bit of moisture/corrosion/inductance from thunderstorms etc.
We don't use these things in our living rooms.

Unfortunately, that's what I thought too. Having tested the camera connectivity on two separate machines with the same behaviour.

QSI have decided that the camera needs to go back for service. So I will be packing that away in a week or so after I get back from OS.

Hope your seeming run of bad luck of late will be over with this now!
