Heart of the Milky Way

This is my first attempt at a tracked shot of the heart of the Milky Way.

It is a single 60 second exposure, dew limited me to 60 seconds and it got so bad that I did not get enough decent frames for a stack.

Canon 6D (unmodified)
24-70 f2.8 @ 35mm, f4
Astrotrac TT320X-AG
60 seconds @ 2500 ISO

Lovely, Christian. I would have a look at the high res version, but I have no idea of how
to find it on the Flickr thing.

Wow Christian, that is simply stunning!!! I am gobsmacked that you have this result from a single 60 second exposure. What is your secret?
Bravo,
Bruce.

Must admit I am quite jealous! Where did you take this from? Looks like a dark sky site

Thank you for the kind words, I did nothing different in regards to data capture, it is just a simple 60 second exposure at a higher ISO.

Post processing is what did it, I have a few more shots I got from that night but was unable to replicate exactly what I did, I need to somehow record what I do, I tend to fiddle around till I get it right but afterwards forget how I got there

Turning the highlights down and compensating by turning the whites up helped in bringing out more detail in the brighter areas.

This was shot at Crago observatory in the Blue Mountains, the SMC was barely visible so it is by no means a dark sky site. I thank the astrotrac for being so brilliantly easy to use.
