Has anyone here failed to perform a meridian flip when the the movement became critical when tracking? God, please let me not be the only person to admit to this...
Happily, It's not a rookie error either, I've known seasoned pro's do this one while slewing.

I am still trying to get my EQ6 Pro to do an automatic meridian flip, playing with settings. When I hit the meridian the ASCOM driver just starts whinging about horizon limit being reached and stops everything! Better than it trying to continue and breaking something

I have slept through several alarms, once or twice to do the meridian flip

About two years ago I was getting set up for a local astronomy evening... Forgot to take the brackets for my ED100 Luckily I was only 15 minutes from home and had some of my family coming down anyway When I noticed I just sighed and half decided not to bother with the refractor and just use the 10" SCT.

Shifting everything up to the dark site, having a long weekend glass of wine or two, then starting to setup and realising the standard bolts which connect my pier plate adapter to my pier, are too short by 1/4 inch when connecting to the new tripod.

Nearest Bunnings 100 km away. Should have checked at home first..duh.

Darn, that happens to me like three times a month! almost.

Lets see... I have lost approximately 341 lens caps in my lifetime. For the price of those lens caps, I could have got more seriously into astro-imaging and have forgotten about the loss of caps. I've burn't small holes through caps too, it only takes 1/2 second through an EP. It's not that bad, but for the smell that freaks you out.

I've stuck a running hose down the throat of a Newt when viewing Mars almost ten years ago, that sucked.

Er, how exactly did you manage the hose trick? Trying a rapid cool down technique?

Are you all sure you really want to know why that was done ?
I omitted the details out of respect for the sensitivities of the optically sensitive and kind folk here. It's not for the squeamish. It was a horror story.

Ok then, no point trying to avoid it, or supress the memory.

Bat sh!t, thats what. Yep, steaming hot acidic excrement sent from the heavens.

A bat crap bombardier decided to jettison its load in mid flight, perfectly delivered into the ota of an old Omcon Newt, splashing copiously across the mirror and down the sides of the tube. In split seconds without thought I had the hose down there pronto, almost like an autonomous reaction.

A little damage was done, so I upgraded the scope and handed the Omcon on to a friend in need.

Look up, look Bat, and prosper.

I wait to uncover until the bat nocturnal migration has ended.

In fact, I cool down from about 4pm on - I put the bahtinov clip on mask onto the dewshield and leave it - the THIN slots allow radiative cooling still, and keeps the crap out.

- Driving to a remote imaging location and realising I'd left the camera battery on charge at home;
- Driving to a remote imaging location and realising I'd left the camera SD card firmly wedged in the computer at home (is there a pattern developing here?);
- Driving to a remote imaging location and realising I'd left the star tracker polar alignment scope at home (does this guy never learn?);
- Driving to a remote imaging location and realising I'd left the remote shutter release at home (give this guy a brain!);
- Grabbing the laptop after a webcam session and pulling the telescope & mount over, crash onto the concrete (well, something different);
- Three times (groan)

Cheers -

^ there appears to be a underlying and recurring fault here, RK.

If you drop vehicle transportation, most all your problems will dissolve.

I had a habit of the same sort of behaviour until a wise man said these words - "O for Christ's sake Ulrich, make a list and tick things off as you load them!".
