Guided push to using c925 evo

Dear Members,

Is there a way of pushing this scope to the object, but being guided by software to get to it (Sky portal/sky safari/stellarium)?

This would be pretty handy at a camp site to avoid noise.

You should have wi-fi, use the sky safari app on your tablet or smartphone

So if I release the clutches and move manually the scope will still no where it is and talk to the software? Will try again tomorrow night.

No , not unless it has encoders which I don't know. Why not align and let the software move the mount, noise should not be of any significance

I read that the Evo does have dual encoders - easy to find out, after alignment loosen the clutches, move the mount and you can see if the cursor moves on the screen and whether alignment is maintained.

I think you can also reduce the maximum slew speed to reduce noise.

No such luck when I release the clutches. The target on the screen stays put!

It's kinda noisy George! I was hoping to take the scope camping next dry season....some amazing skies....mesmerizing. But I'm not sure the people in the tent next door would be too happy with some goto action at 3am.

I hope you lodge a noise complaint if the "people in the tent next door" decide to do their own "Go To" at 3:00 AM....!

From page 9 of the NexStar Evolution manual:

Note: You should not unlock the clutches when the telescope
is aligned with the app or hand control, or the alignment will
be lost. The telescope accounts for movement made by the
motors. If the telescope is moved manually or bumped after
it was aligned, you should perform a new alignment.

We camp a bit. I would rather hear the noise of a telescope (and perhaps an invite to come have a gander) over those campers who think bringing along a radio is a good idea... or worse leaving the car radio running day and night.

Nothing is worse than a car radio that to kill my camping buzz... but the sound of a guy with a telescope - A person who has come to the campsite to enjoy the beauty of it - that I would deal with happily.

.....I should add, that I think this is a great forum, with some very helpful people. I was a bit wary of posting this thread as I thought id get endlessly replies to just learn the sky.....but not one! Having said that, the last few nights ive left the goto switched off and have been finding stuff that I looked at previously with the goto and I certainly understand the thrill that people talk about when observing this way......probably a better option at 3 am whilst camping.
