Neptune...Finally!

Good one Shaun , beautiful colour ain't it ? I still remember when I first caught it. , 1987ish it was close to Uranus in Sagittarius it has moved a bit since then.

Hi Hans,
Using an 8" Dob...the "bluey" colour of Neptune was a little washed out because I was viewing an area of sky that, in my area, is quite light...to see Trtion as well was pretty unexpected to be honest; also, it was only at a guess about 30 degrees above the eastern horizon...I have pretty good dark skies toward the south, west and north-west but east is a little bit of a light zone - I looked for the Helix same night - still looking

Oh and if I could add, seeing Neptune and Triton eased some of the pain of watching the Wallabies beat the All Blacks on Saturday night...

Here's a challenge that's easier than it sounds. Next time you are somewhere really dark track down Uranus naked eye. You probably won't be able to see it with direct vision, but using your averted vision under dark skies it's pretty easy.
