NGC6334 - Cat's Paw - HSO

Herewith the last deliverable from my NGC6334 project with the narrow band combination presented in the HSO pallet. I tried a number of different variations on the mix and landed on this one primarily because I felt that the presentation allowed for the differentiation of the different channels, at least visually. The aesthetics of the image were challenging me initially but I found that the more that I starred at it the more it grew on me

I also combined the three narrow band masters into a single, enhanced, greyscale luminance and even though I didn't finish up using it I felt that it made a nice stand alone image so have published that as well.

And, just for a bit of informative fun, I assembled the narrow band masters and results as well as the RGB image into a single file with a 16:9 canvas so that it fits nicely on the PC screen. Turned out to be quite a large file at 317 Mb.

Links to images on Astrobin follow:

I have uploaded a full resolution of the combination image to Gigapan here for the pixel peepers that would like to journey into the depths

Comments and critiques welcome.

The SHO image is excellent. All our favourite features clearly and cleanly and sharply displayed.

Thanks for the thoughts Martin and Colin. I’ve just tried the Astrodon links and they are working so maybe there was a temporary issue.

Clear skies.
Rodney.

Thanks Chris, I landed on the HSO option after trying several other of the Hubble pallets variations. It gave me the best starting point to work from.

The HSO version has a good WOW! factor, with a good 3D effect. However, I have to cast my vote for the mono version. It’s hard to go past a good contrasty B&W image with lots of intricate detail.

Thanks Geoff. Agree that there is definitely a place for the colour version along side the additional detail that we can extract from a single channel greyscale image.
