Got my guiding to work

... on a very popular subject. It has taken me about a month and I'm so glad to have it happening.

14 x 240s each S H O

Total guiding RMS was sitting around 0.8-0.9, which seems good enough to me.

A quick process, as they all are. First image I haven't tried to sharpen, but I do now see what people mean by worms in their images when they push them.

Nothing can dampen my spirits as I turn in tonight

I kept working a bit after this cut and am getting there with green reduction in gimp.

Awesome. I still remember the first time I managed to auto guide and saw all those stars for the first time in my pics. Good feeling.

PS: your data is excellent. You can push it a little.

Ahhh, thanks so much, everyone! You guys continue to be a huge source of motivation, encouragement and inspiration.

I was almost in tears when I saw the first guided sub pop up, looking crispy It reminded me of the feeling I had with first image i got of orion nebula, magic!

At the end of the session I was getting a bit of dew on the lens, so i turned to lobster neb and took 3 x 600s exposures, one for each band, just to see if there was a ceiling on how long I could expose for. They also came out just fine, though possibly dewy. Nice to have some data to play with during the upcoming rubbish nights!

Lovely image JP and those stars are perfect. That feeling of success every time we make it over another hurdle is one of the greatest highs imaginable. It's like conquering Everest. Congrats and happy imaging!

My guiding works perfectly in tests..one 10 minutes.
But if imaging no way..I actually blame the mount or the cables as it is jumping when just tracking.
Anyways it is in that context that I say you have done an excellent job producing a wonderful image. Very well done.

Guiding is good. I started out doing old school hand guiding or short exposures one by one. Even imagined I could use film on a 645.

A bit like riding a fixie. The fun wore off but I hugely admire those who can do it and those mounts required. Still something about those images .

Very comfortable to get the guiding going and just lay back and look at the stars.

I didn't mean it literally, it was meant as a slightly humorous compliment
on your progress.

did almost 4hrs on the same target again. I'm not sure if the data is any better, but the processing (i think) is.

Astrobin version may be a bit too contrasty... I like it some areas, but not in others. I really like the left hand side here, the break to the left of the left dragon, super nice. Would love to be good enough one day to make it razor sharp!

I think I'll combine datasets and see where that gets me... its must be pushing 7horus and the framing is identical (I know because I cut the dragons egg in half both times )
