A Quick IC434 Horsehead Nebula in Sydney

Last Sunday evening in Sydney was clear until 11.00pm with some scattered passing high cloud , so decided to give the Horsehead a go for only the second time using my 2600MC and ZWO Duoband filter
Bortle 8 skies ( no moon around )
6” f6 Bintel Newt ( my old $299 workhorse)
EQ6-R mount
ZWOASI2600MC set in Ascom highest dynamic range ( gain 0 ) cooled to -12C
15 x 3 minute dithered guided subs ( took 23 but had to discard a few due to cloud and a dither that went a bit wild )
15 x darks
No flats
PHD2 guiding 0.90 to 1.00 arc sec error
Goto and navigation EQMOD and Ascom Stellarium
Frame focus and capture APT
Stacked in DSS
Processed in Startools V1.6 OSC Linear data set
Binned at 35% ( normally Bin at 50% with Startools )
Image had an unusually high level of noise most probably due to the very small amount of ordinary data captured ( only 45mins worth )

Crop version LRGB
Crop version Synthetic Luminance only
Cropping lost some resolution

Comments most welcome

Great detail and colour for such a short integration time. Well done!

Nothing worse than wild dither M.

Not bad for a quickie, well done.

Very clear last night, got caught out by dew and lost half.

Peter,
Thanks mate
I’ve now reset my dither command in APT back to level 1 which is low. With the new 2600MC you only need a small dither in each frame to assist with any residual fixed pattern noise ( if any at all )
I was out last night too at my place at Narrawallee, dew was around but didn’t stop me from imaging Gabriela Mistral as I had my 4 dew straps running at 50% , got bed at 2.30am. I’m located 200m from the beach but up nice and high on the lee side of a hill , so I still get a light wisp of wind at night , if I was down at beach level the dew would be a lot heavier I suspect
Going to finish this object off tonight , hopefully won’t be a late one
Seeing was really good last night around midnight
Thanks again
M

Beautiful

That's awesome - nice pic.

Thanks for the detail on how you achieved this - gives me a great starting point for trying to take a similar shot.

Shaun,
Thanks for your kind comment
Do you have a similar equipment ( FOV , image scale etc... )
Just remember I cropped this image so it appears larger than the native FOV
Cheers
Martin
