IC2944 Running Chicken Nebula ( Body )

After imaging Carina on late Saturday night , decided to give the Running Chicken a go even though I knew I would only squeeze less than half of the whole object into my FOV
First time imaging this object with the 2600MC camera. Started around 1.00am and finished subs at 2.30am , set my darks and went to bed
6” f6 Bintel newt
EQ6-R mount
ZWOASI2600MC set at Highest Dynamic Range cooled to -12C
Goto and navigation EQMOD and Ascom Stellarium
Frame focus and Capture APT
PHD2 guiding at 0.90 arc sec error
24 x 3 minute dithered guided subs
20 x darks
Stacked in DSS capper sigma clipping
Processed in Startools V1.6 OSC linear data set
Star field affected by some tilt in my camera focuser set up

Original version ( cropped RHS to centre the object more )
Section Crop version to show detail including Bok globules

Martin,

great image.

I can actually see a running chicken !!

Sometimes I think the names of celestial objects are a
huge stretch if the imagination.

It was certainly a productive session.

Another target off the list.

Well done.

Paul.

Hi Fernando
Thank you
The ZWO Duoband filter in light polluted Sydney is a life saver, it allows you to push long subs and together with the super low noise 2600MC and gather good quality signal
It’s a pleasure to process this data with my current set up
I use to struggle so much in Sydney with my old DSLR , limited to 90 sec subs along with all that damn noise
Thanks again
Martin

Hi Martin nice image. I have done some work on this one as well, but have yet to see a chook running or otherwise in it...maybe someone can outline what we're meant to see :-)

Thanks Robert
Yes this object in a wider field does clearly resemble a chicken
My FOV is around 60 arc min x 97 arc min which only frames the main body of the chook
To capture the whole object your FOV must be around 4 deg x 3 deg fairly wide
Look on Astrobin for a wide field image of IC 2944 and you will see the chook running !!
Thanks again

Nathan
Thanks for looking and your comments
Weather is horrid at the moment but we might get an hour or so of clear skies early tomorrow night as this big low is moving quickly north east
And yes more crap weather next week
Cheers
Martin
