Maybe not good news for retirees if the Reserve Bank lowers interest rates again

Yes they are already pityful.
Still on the bright side goods generally are relatively cheap.
A friend on the pension said to me recently that things were good cause today you can buy a small generator, a note book and still have food money out of the fortnights payment.
He recalled times when either of those items would take 6 month to save up for.

The thing that affects me is the price of services, old age and a crook set of legs has me paying others to do things that I never once would have paid for...car service, cleaning gutters...installing solar panels only yesterday...the main reason I gave the boat away was instead of doing the annual anti foul myself, which is still expensive ($500 for paint and $1500 for the slip) I was faced with an additional $50 an hour labour.

Anyways I have no complaints we still are pretty well off in this country.

However once if you had a million capital you would live high on the hog now a million does not get much past the pension or the dole.

It sucks. A significant proportion of my income is in USD. I should go buy an expensive scope then I'll feel better

Chris - are you going to directly witness the solar eclipse? That would be awesome.

Well, AUD was low for the past two years or so and it will be rising for a couple of years again. Good news for me, as I am hoping to buy a second nice telescope in a year or two and my camera will be 5 years old by then...

Yes, I'm off to see the eclipse and to do a bit of sightseeing in various places.

There's no way I'd live in the US - after all, why on earth would I want to downgrade from living in Australia?

It does remind me of experiences I've had going through Canadian customs/arrivals though. They always seem to be highly suspicious and think I'm going to want to stay there forever. I can't help but think to myself that why would I want to give up Australia for such a place... especially when I think of their winters.
