New Telescopes Coming to Market

In my reading I have come across a couple of new scopes coming to market in the next few months. One is the Teleskop Express TS Photoline 125mm APO, @ native f7.8 reduces to F6, uses a FPL-53/Lanthan objective, with a 2.5" R&P focuser standard (likely upgradable). Expected delivery from manufacturer is 10/01/2018. It looks like they are accepting pre-orders now:

https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop...--Focuser.html

Cost looks to be $1910 AUD (before shipping and GST).

Secondly, there is the review of the prototype AT152 EDT, on CN,

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/5...tech-at152edt/

Astronomics advised: "The glass is an f/8 triplet using FK-61 and a Lanthanum element. Price is US $3999 (currently $5232 AUD).
Delivery would be Early Spring 2018, Possibly late February if everything went perfectly. "

So that works out to a focal length of 1216mm at f8, it reduces to f6,4 (or 972,8mm). Weight is quoted at 25 lbs. I am not convince that a FK-61/Lanthan objective is going to be as good as a FPL-53 objective, I suppose it depends on the design, but there is a significant difference in the Abbe numbers for FK-61 and FPL-53. Time will tell.

Any other new scopes you have run across?

Interesting new telescopes, than you Glen for the update

I know that CFF is releasing a prototype of 250mm RC f/7 with light mirrors - should be suitable to ride on more mounts due to its light weight and compact design: http://cfftelescopes.eu/stockpreowned/

The Teleskop Express TS Photoline 125mm APO sounds interesting. The Unistellar eVscope is getting crowd funding, but no idea on final price or availability.

I wonder how that would compare to an Intes MN66 such as that currently in the classifieds. Or the ES Mak Newt which is f/4.8.

Slower scopes are easier to make (in theory), and by the time you add in shipping and GST, there’s nothing there to worry an Esprit or any other classic triplet at those prices.

Glen, I don’t think my scope feels emotion, so I think we’re good

Interesting to have new scope options on the market, although they seem more suited to visual than imaging. No disrespect to eyeballers intended. Having said that, doublets can be mighty effective.

Any new entrants onto the market will undoubtedly spark new discussion and debate...that’s a good thing IMO, makes it doubly interesting (pun intended)
