Help with RGB stars on Narrowband

Hi All,

A few times now I have tried to incorporate RGB stars onto a Narrowband images with little success. I have tried several options with star masks etc, but none give natural look.

Does anyone have any tips on how I should go about this? I don't think I need step by step instructions, but a point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Hi Ben,

I generally register all the master stacks for each filter and the RGB stars, then remove the NB stars from each filter stack with Annies Astro Actions > Star Removal - or Straton.
Then simply layer up & colour the starless masters > with the RGB stars on top using Photoshop >lighten mode.
JP Metsavainio describes his Tone Mapping process HERE

Hope that helps

Thanks Andy I'll have a read.

I probably should have been more specific and say I am using PixInsight. Maybe the same principles apply.

Looks like that tone mapping PDF is no longer available, but I have read about tone mapping in the past.

But essentially this approach is to remove the narrowband stars and replace with RGB ones.

Will give this a go.

I wonder if there is a way to re-colour the narrowband stars with RGB colours.
