Mars 30th July 2018

SPX350 F18.2, ASI290, Baader 685nm filter.

Seeing was not very good plus the breeze was strong despite forecast. I had issues with my USB hub connecting and disconnecting continuously which calmed down but would only give me 9fps. Saturn was not worth bothering with it was too hazy and disturbed by the seeing.

Mars was incredibly bright its size was quite a shock, gain had to go right down .

The breeze was too much, but I got a brief window for IR685nm which showed some clearing features on Mars visible in preview. Processing displayed Elysium and Mare Cimmerium quite clearly. The red channel was far weaker, seeing was not good but the IR seemed to cut trough the seeing better than usual.

Regards, John.

Certainly brought out the detail at 685nm. I wonder if deeper wavelengths would work too?

Nice shot John Mars is still really tricky at the moment and the seeing is not helping much
