GSO BT252 Carbon Truss Newt

Hi all,

I am selling my RC8CF and am looking at a nice alternative. I was originally looking at a premium refractor, but found this on bintel:
https://www.bintel.com.au/product/bi...v=6cc98ba2045f

Has anyone used one of these before? How does it perform?

i've never owned a newt before, but have seen good images come from them in the past.

Perhaps the thing that stood out most to me was the F/4 as i've never imaged at anything faster than f/7.

For imaging it'll wash out quicker with the light pollution you have.

That was one of my worries, would lower gain levels on the camera help combat that issue?

Paul Haase has its big brother and has had to do some remediation work on it, might be worth a PM to Paul. That said, it's expensive for an f4 imaging newt, when you consider the tube version costs about 1/3 that amount.

great scope But as Glen Mentioned you need to do some mods on it to get it right with mine I installed some carbon fibre tubes on the top secondary cage to increase the rigidness of it as there is a lot of flexure as you move the scope around the sky .
also installed a Moonlite Focuser on it the original linear 3" focuser is good but depending on what camera you are using it still has a little movement .
if you are worried about light scattering I purchased a light shroud from Teleskop Express in Germany it was for the 12" GSO RC scope and you can get a front cover as well but when I sorted all this I found this scope very capable and good one thing as a portable set up remember this is quite heavy so you will need at least a Losmandy G11 to carry it .
I have since sold mine as it was just a little to big for my POD Observatory and have down sized to a 8" Bintel imaging scope which is a little beauty as Glen Mentioned it is a quarter of the price and you don't have to do any mods food for thought
cheers Pete
