TS72 FPL53 doublet first light

I tried the TS72 on a few targets last night; the colours look decent and the CA looks minimal. I still need to find the proper position for the Flat 6A II reducer; it was set at 12mm and obviously needs a couple more mm.

Here's an M42 stack and a single frame.

Also tried a faint nebula, IC443. This one needs no moon and possibly no filter with my gear.

That was with the IDAS P2 Ryan. The IDAS D2 is supposed to be better for dealing with LED streetlights but it throws colour balance off with a non-modded dslr.

I'm thinking I'll end up with a modded dslr one day and the IDAS D2 will get used.

I'm resisting the idea of an astro-cam due to extra complexity.

Nice Tony..It's amazing how capable these lil scopes can be..72mm ..often surprises me visually..cuts through the seeing and keeps a steady image..no big thermal mass to deal with.

BTW Peter or Wolfi at TS could help you with spacing, send him an EMAIL ..They respond..looks great though!
That Camera has a great reputation too.

Yeah these TS scopes almost qualify for the cheap but good category Joe.
The focuser on the 72 is the same as the larger scopes though not rotatable; it's solid and has long travel.

The TS72 was under $700 including post.

The reducer is William Optics but I've looked at figures on the TS website for their reducers and I think another 2mm should get me very close. I had to experiment a little with the TS115 too before settling on 4mm.

Nice pics, nice little scope Tony. Be interesting to see how it goes when you get the reducer spacing sorted.
With that reducer you are getting FL=300mm? That's almost wide field!!!

Tony, the TS flattener has a rotation function built in:

https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop...-aperture.html

Teleskop-Services also have a rotating focuser adaptor which typically screws into the 2.5" R&P focuser tube and accepts the Photoline Reducer/Correctors. Not sure if they make it in 2" models but email Wolfi and ask.

Thanks Chris. It's a 0.8 reducer, so about 340mm and f/4.8 - nice and fast.

Glen, there's no M63 rotator listed on the TS website but I see WO do sell one (m63 both sides). I might get that after I prove that the reducer works with this scope.

No good for imaging tonight but it'll be clear enough to play with reducer settings - should get it figured out this evening.

These are the ones I was thinking of:

https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop...54-and-2-.html

https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop...-rotation.html

But yeah they may not fit that focuser.

You could look through the rest of the rotation adaptors, here:

I tried different Flat 6A II settings on the TS72 last night and about 9mm seems to work ok. Outer field stars aren't properly round in a blown up image but look good at normal full screen size.

I had a closer look at the TS115 images and stars are a bit dodgy blown up so I'll need to fine tune it a bit too.

TS72, Flat 6A II at 9mm adjustment:
