Toucam mods

If there is a thread here covering it already I do appologize and if someone could point it out to me I'll gladly have your babies.

Apart from the mogg adapter, the other mods can a person with limited brain capacity and 4 thumbs like myself do themself?

If so, is there a tutorial somewhere on this site or the net that explains how and what needs to be done.

At $83 it seems like a great entry level cam into the facinating world of astro photography.

Many thanks in advance

Depending on what you want to do with the ToUcam, no mods are required!

Unscrew the lens, screw in the 1.25" adapter. That's it - if you only plan to use it for planetary/lunar imaging.

If you want to do deep-space imaging with it, then you'll need to get it "modded" so that you can do long exposures with it. Check out ballaratdragons threads in the deep space forum to see what can be done with it.

Other mods? Not really. Some people have replaced it with a more sensitive monochrome chip. I don't think it's worth it though. As an upgrade from the ToUcam, you're next step is the DBK/DMK21AU04.

Hi guys,
This will be a stupid question but Im going to ask it anyway! Im new to all this and have just got myself an SPC900Nc too. $83 at MSY bargain!

Which 1.25" adapter do I need? I have a C6N celestron 6" newt, I want to use a barlow (starting out at 2x until I can work out what I am doing with it as I realise my image size will be small with a 750mm at F5)
Mogg has a few. Its either the W900NC-F or the W900NC-TF. correct?
Do I need an IR blocking filter for planetary or moon shots if so I would presume I would need the W900NC-F? or am I on the wrong track here and thats only needed for long exposure moded units?

I really just want to hook this thing up to a 2x barlow and take my first steps.

any help would be appreciated!

cheers

Hi Damo, to IceInSpace!

Is your Celestron on a tracking mount or on a dob mount?

It looks like the W900NC-F is the one you need.
You don't absolutely need a IR blocking filter straight away, but it's worth getting one as the images will be sharper and colour balance will be easier.

Hope that helps! Keep asking questions.
