Win 10 freezing/stalling

I have had a very stable Win 10 since it came out on this laptop. The updates all seem OK, but lately, I am getting random freeze-ups/stalling.

I have done EVERYTHING I have thought of - disconnected unused peripherals, cleared temp files, cleared disk space, checked surface of hard disk, checked RAM etc etc. Just before the freeze, the fans are working overtime, so something is being memory/CPU intensive - checking running processes though reveals nothing unusual. I can go days and it won't so it, then it'll do it twice in one night etc. Just random.

I disassembled the computer and cleared all the ventilation and fan. No issues. (this computer never gets hot anyway).

The only thing that has recently been installed in MaxIM 6 (fully up to date), but even that has no background processes I can discover. Win 10 has all the current BS on it. Virus scanning = nothing (never had a single issue on this system).

Any other ideas how to solve this one?

Try increasing your virtual memory. Worked for me until the recent stealth Windows download (freezing up again).

Lewis, I sympathise with you; almost from the day I got my new W10 laptop it has randomly rebooted itself, usually once per day, but never more than
that. These problems, mine and yours, are apparently common, as there
are many people online reporting the same problems, and nearly as many
having supposed cures. I have tried several of those "cures", but none worked for me, although some people have reported successful fixes.

I read somewhere last week that windows 7 is now being taken up more than windows 10 in the last year, says a lot for this abortion of a system. Once again MS have created a piece of crud. Interesting seeing that it is supposed to have support removed from it in 2020 I think. Why is it the micro slough always discontinue an OS if it turns out to be pretty good and try to re-invent the bloody wheel.
Yes I know that there are users who swear by Windows 10 but I think they are as rare as rocking horse sh1t!!

Fixed for now, maybe.

First sign of trouble, it gets flushed to Win 7 (still got a copy)

I have win 10 running on several machines. It is the platform for my remote observatory and apart from the recent problematic update(fixed by work around and later win update) has continued to work fine.

In fact certain pre-mentioned software had caused freezes and hangs in the past so I have removed them.

It's not fashionable but my win 10 is great -for now.

Mine WAS until the latest update decided to disagree with something. Fixed now it seems after another update. I think it was a driver.

Hi Guys 'n' Gals,
Just a "heads-up" & an "In case you didn't know" type reply...
I visit "askwoody.com" daily for all the relevant updates & problems they cause,
so, maybe go there & check out what the latest "offering" is from MS & deal with it in the appropriate manner?

MS have really stuffed WIN 10.

Anyway, it's just a thought.

Excellent info from that site, Woody is a real guru and gives MS some full on crap, which in most cases they deserve. He is a font of knowledge in my opinion.
