Ngc 4945 Widefield

Good conditions in Melbourne last night but being a week night I couldn't spend much time outside. This was 42 minutes ( 21 x 2 min subs ) using a Sigma 50 - 200mm lens set at 200mm on my full spectrum modified Canon 550d without any filters.

Despite stopping down to f8 at 800iso, aberrations are still evident towards the corners, I'm suspecting the omission of my usual UVIR cut filter may have exacerbated the issue. I cropped the full frame to give a bit more detail of the galaxy 4976 below 4945. If fact, there are quite a few faint fuzzies when you scout around the full frame shot. I'm hoping for some clear skies by the weekend.

I've got Friday off work so maybe Thursday night could be a goer. Perhaps a couple of hours sleep then outside and start snapping away. Not sure what object I'll target, I won't be adding to ngc 4945 with the 200mm lens so what I've posted is all I'm going to do but I could give it a go with the 8 inch Newt. I may even take myself somewhere out of town to improve the result.

Lucky for some ! Im going to try to get out on Thursday too although I'm working Friday. I'm trying to make the most of the moon shrinkage. If only the cloud would clear a couple of hours earlier. I could setup and get things started then head off to bed for a few hours while my camera does its thing. Fingers crossed. Any ideas on a target ? Maybe we could do a comparison ? But be kind, my OTAs are smaller than yours and home is Bertole 8.
