Geminids 2012 12 12

Hi folks:
It is raining season in Singapore. After a heavy downpour in the evening I stick out the video camera and for the better half of the nights rain drops from the roof creating artificial meteor streaks. It was only around 2-3-4 am in the morning the system detecting meteors as the clouds shifted somewhere else. a meagre handful of gems were detected together with other shower members as well as strong point flashes from satellites.

A small sampling of still-images from ufocapture screen shoot and ufoanalyser posted here.

Clear sky to all.

Great captures, would love to do this sort of stuff one day... I love it how UFO plots the shower.

Thanks for sharing, Chia. I really like that first plot which shows the radiant. What software did you use to create it?

I was out imaging from 10:30 til 1 this morning and looked up every now and then to catch some Geminids. Didn't see any but saw 3 bright sporadic meteors. I then watched for some Geminids from 1:30 until just after 2. Only saw 2 Geminids in the time and 3 sporadic. Too tired to stay up any longer. It will be cloudy in Adelaide for the next few days so I won't get a chance to see the event this year.

Software used is sonotaco's ufocapture for capture, ufoanalyser for radiant plot. Google sonotaco meteor will bring u there and forum discussion. You can do dual station for orbit determination too. Video is more sensitive than dslr in capturing meteor. When comes to data anslysis video is the way to go .

Was out last night 12-12 in far western Brisbane 11:40-12am & saw 4 slow-med speed in that short time (around Orion). Just tried now for 20 mins and absolutely nothing.
